Goodbye Serangoon NPC

Feeling: nostalgic & lost; Venue: lost...?

Early morning at 1000hrs, I reach the NPC for the farewell. Entered the training room and saw Mark busy with his digicam, and Kelly busy preparing the food, and a few others in the room. I sat down and stared blankly into the air for awhile.. WeiCheng came in and sat beside me and chatted with me. He is my squadmate who is also going over to SengKang NPC with me. He had just finished his night shift. My mind is filled with thoughts that is so numerous but yet not defined. I also dunno what was I thinking of and feeling of.. I flashed back to the debriefing session on the previous day, 21st September 2004, after the end of my night tour.

At the end of the previous night tour during debriefing, the TL had a long debriefing and conversation with us. First he went through the different cases. Then he had asked Sazaly to give a few words. There was an air of silence and somberity. For the 1st time I see Sazaly being so serious. He gave a short speech but I could feel that the speech was from the bottom of his heart. So touching his speech. Then TL went on to preach about importance of work attitude + personal attitude + progress in career, wished us all the best etc. Along the way he mentioned about good examples for us to follow. One good example to follow is Senin. This, I couldn't agree even more. all fingers high up supporting!!

(Though Senin is only a SC, he displays himself as a good policeman. To start off with, his turnout and bearing is GOOD. Neat hairstyle with uniform properly ironed and worn, with everything in place and boots shining (nopes he is NOT a nerd). When on the road, he is brave, knows his rules, knows exactly what to do, and works well. He is never late for work. In fact he always comes early! He carries himself smartly with pride. Of coz at his age and being a guy he will be playful and all. But when come to work, he is a VERY GOOD role model for sooooooo MANY OF US to learn from. Including regulars. It's a pity that all his attempts to sign on to the SPF did not go through. He will make a GREAT NPCO who will rise up high! I hereby pray that GOD shows him the way and helps him clinch the job in SPF, for he truly deserves it!!)

I kept quiet throughout the entire session of de-briefing. Being the most junior there, I should keep my mouth shut. Actually I should had alot of feelings in me. I wanted to open my mouth to say thanks to my mentor Choo Guan Sion, and to TL Insp William Koh. Up till today I still wanna say a MEGA HUGE THANK YOU to them but I guess I still don't want to open my mouth. I have so much more to learn from all the seniors. I love to listen to all their experiences. Fascinating! I really hope to be able to be as good as them, and stay in the force till the day I retire. After the de-briefing TL came over to shake my hands and wished me all the best. After everything I just quickly went up to change and stepped out of the NPC....

Back to the farewell, slowly more people start to trail in.... TL also came in. I wanted so much to go over and take picture with him but I was simply soooooooooooooo SHY!! *make shy face*. Then CO and OO came in. CO was invited to saw a few words, followed by giving out plaques to the senior staffs who had been working in the NPC for so long! I dare say they truly deserve it. No matter what they had still put in effort in the work! Next comes the pigging part. I had a great chat with the CO while eating. I shared with her on why I had choose to leave teaching and join the Singapore Police Force. I also shared with her that I will like to be more jaded so as to be more objective and not get too emotional thus hindering the carrying out if duty. CO then shared with me that it is not exactly a good thing to do and shared with me her experiences during her time in I-branch. She has had 8years of experience already! WOWzers! Now isn't that fascinating! No wonder Mark is a fan of both the CO and the OO. Haha.

Following after the pigging session is photo-taking! While talking to Mark, I took some photos of Mark continuously. Of coz he knows it lah. Haha!! AFterwhich Mark also followed my trick and took continuous photographs of us getting ready to take photograph with the CO and OO. HEY MARK!! JUST TO LET YOU KNOW, I SHOWED MELVIN THE PICTURES ON THE DIGICAM AND HE AGREED THAT YOU LOOKED BOYISH AND CUTE!

Anyway it's not just the 2 of us (Me and Sazaly) leaving the team to SK. Senin will also be ORDing on the 26th September, Soo Meng Hon will be going over to K9 at the end of October, and either Mark or Rodney will be going over to another team. They look as below:

This is Mark. Heh when I showed his picture to Melvin, he also agreed that Mark has this very cute boyish look.

Then overall there will be a reshuffling of the team.... so many changes.. changes always comes in at the time when we are most comfortable, when we are enjoying the current situation in our comfort zones. SHEESH. Then we will have to adapt to the change, learn to get use to and appreciate with whatever we have all over again. Nobody likes changes. Everybody hates changes. Coz we never know what will be in store for us. We have to shift our paradigm to embrace the new settings and start all over again.... I remembered pastor had previously mention before during one of the service that we have to get out of our comfort zones to move on for GOD...

Frankly speaking I enjoy working under this current TL. Really. At least so far for the past experiences that I have accumulated all these while, I enjoyed my times under him. I will like to thank GOD for the team that I was in during my time Sgoon NPC. It was a good place and team for me to learn frm and to recover from the previous bad experiences... THANK YOU TL INSP WILLIAM KOH, MENTOR SSGT CHOO GUAN SION AND EVERYBODY WHO HAD HELPED AND TAUGHT ME ONE WAY OR ANOTHER.

That marks the end of my official title as a Sgoon NPC NPCO........
